YOUNG GIRL DIES AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR NEAR LISMORE

A 9-year-old girl has died in hospital, after she was struck by a car in the state’s north.

Emergency services were called to Cameron Road at McLeans Ridges, just east of Lismore, at around 9 o’clock this morning, after reports the girl had been hit by a Hyundai station wagon.

She was taken to Lismore Base Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The driver of the station wagon, a 54-year-old man, was treated for shock and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Five ambulances and the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter were called to the scene.

Cameron Road remains closed in both directions.
