BATTLE OF BRITAIN ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATED IN NEWCASTLE

Two RAAF fighter jets streaked over inner city Newcastle today commemorating the 78th anniversary of the World War 2, Battle of Britain.

The air warfare campaign by Nazi Germany, raged for four months over England during 1940, with allied forces eventually repelling the enemy.

Australian airmen took part in the conflict, including 22-year-old John Crossman from Newcastle, who was killed when his Hurricane fighter was shot down over southern England.
