MEASLES WARNING FOR PEOPLE IN THE COFFS HARBOUR-WOOLGOOLGA AREA
Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga residents who haven’t had a measles vaccination are being urged to keep an eye out for symptoms.
The North Coast Public Health Unit has issued the warning, after an unvaccinated child presented to hospital with the illness.
Measles is highly contagious and can be spread in the air through coughing and sneezing.
It can take about 10 days for symptoms to arise and they include fever, sore eyes and a cough followed by a red, blotchy rash covering the body.
Anyone with symptoms is urged to see their GP.
