GLEN INNES MAGPIES HOPING TO BRING DOWN BOOMERANGS IN GROUP 19 DECIDER

It’s crunch time in Group 19 rugby league this weekend, with the Moree Boomerangs hosting Glen Innes in the grand final.

The Boomerangs have been a picture of consistency throughout the year, and the Magpies are finishing off 2018 on a high.

Glen Innes captain-coach Nick Say admits he’s wary of the strike-power of his host team.

“They’re a tough side, they’re big all across the park, so our main focus has just been on completing our sets, try and kick the ball down to their corners, turn their big fellas around and try and starve them of as much football as we can.”

The Magpies have qualified for Sunday’s decider after downing the Inverell Hawks in last weekend’s preliminary final.

Just featuring in the finals series alone is unfamiliar territory for Glen Innes.

“Ever since the finals have started, everyone’s been good around the town, everyone’s asking, congratulating us, it’s been a while since there’s been a team in the semis, let alone the grand final, so it’s been good.”
