QUEEN’S WHARF TOWER TO COME DOWN FROM NEXT WEEK
The time has finally come, with the once-popular and iconic Queen’s Wharf Tower to start being pulled down from Monday.
Demolition crews will move in from next week… the now-derided structure is set to disappear from the harbourside by early October.
Newcastle City Council says maintaining the tower – opened by Queen Elizabeth II during her 1988 visit – would have cost ratepayers $1.6-million, over the next four years, while removing it will only amount to around $300,000.
