LIGHTNING CAUSED FIRE ON LION ISLAND

A lightning strike is thought to be the cause of a sudden blaze which tore through bushland on Lion Island off the Central Coast.

More than 20 fire crews fought to bring the fire under control overnight, with the help of the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

There were fears for the safety of a nesting colony of Little Penguins.

The RFS will carry out hazard reduction burns at the site at a later date.
