STATE GOVERNMENT PLANS TO PURCHASE PRIME AGRICULTURAL LAND FOR TWEED HOSPITAL

Despite this, NBN News can reveal the government is planning on purchasing the prime agricultural land within the next month.

  1. Thank you Georgia Anderson for reporting this potential travesty! It is inconceivable that a National Party MP for the Tweed area where this mega-regional hospital is to be built (who used to represent farmers), Geoff Provest & our own NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard would arrogantly shove this mega-infrastructure in an area that would destroy one of the few remaining rain-soaked and rich-red soil farmlands we have left in NSW. These two men have defended their site-choice vigorously in person at meetings set up to apparently placate us & have insisted they have the power to rezone this declared-protected & working farmland. This is despite very strong farmers’ & wider community protest at likely further State Significant farmland destruction. Because of geographical constraints at this illogical site choice (the state-protected farmlands chosen to be ripped up is located only metres from the famous surf-tourism boutique beach & creek of Kingscliff) the earmarked university & medical precinct adjoining infrastructure will have little choice but to spread in a domino effect over these precious, rain-soaked farmlands. Paving over the paradise of Kingscliff Beach is bad enough – but insisting on fast tracking the concreting over of protected farmland when we have 100% drought in NSW has got to be the most unusual, shortsighted political mistakes in history.
