MAN ARRESTED AT LAKE MACQUARIE OVER MID NORTH COAST ROBBERY

A 26-year-old man has been charged in relation to an aggravated robbery on the Mid North Coast last month.

Police have been told two men allegedly entered a shed on Summerville Street at Wingham in the early hours of July 6, becoming involved in an altercation with two residents.

A 38-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man who lived at the property were assaulted and required hospital treatment, while the two men made off with two motorbikes.

Following investigations, police stopped a car on Lake Road at Glendale at Lake Macquarie this morning, with the 26-year-old driver attempting to flee on foot.

He was tracked down with the support of the dog squad, and charged with a string of offences including escape police custody.

He was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court tomorrow.

A second man, aged 25, was arrested during the week, and charged with offences including aggravated robbery

He’s due to face Taree Local Court on Monday.
