TRUCK DRIVER CAUGHT ALLEGEDLY OVER LIMIT AND ON PHONE

A 61-year-old truck driver has been charged with several offences, after being caught allegedly over the limit, and using his mobile phone behind the wheel along The Esplanade at Speers Point this morning.

Just before 8am, Highway Patrol officers noticed a man driving a tipper truck and dog trailer, while using a mobile phone and not wearing a seatbelt.

Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the man, who then underwent a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.055.

He was issued penalty notices for mobile phone and seatbelt offences, fined $674 and lost seven demerit points.

He will face low range PCA charges in Toronto Local Court on August 28.

  1. You don’t LOSE demerit points. That’s like two negatives making a positive. You are GIVEN demerit points.

Everyone starts at zero points, and if you commit an offence that carries demerit points, the points are added to your driving record. If you commit enough demerit point offences within a 3 year period that you reach or go over the limit for your licence type, your licence will be suspended or will not be renewed.
