Girls from Hockey New England are vying for state selection at Taree this weekend, where the under-13 field state championships are being held.
The two-day tournament started yesterday, with the New England girls beating Canberra 3-nill in their opening match.
That scoreline then reversed in their following match against Wagga Wagga.
An initial squad of 45 will be selected from the tournament, before two teams of 16 will be announced to contest the Australian National Championships later this year.
