HUNTER BUILT WARSHIP SCUTTLED OFF QUEENSLAND

The end of the line today, for a locally-made stalwart of the Australian navy.

Built by Carrington Slipways at Tomago, and launched in 1980, HMAS Tobruk was sunk between Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, after reaching the end of her working life.

She’ll now become a dive site.

Tobruk was used to transport tanks, trucks and troops during 26 major humanitarian and peacekeeping missions.
