NEW PORTABLE WARNING SIGN TO HELP PROTECT KOALAS FROM DRIVERS
In an effort to curb the number of koalas killed in Port Stephens, a mobile warning sign has been purchased, urging drivers to slow down.
It’s part of an initiative by Newcastle Airport, and local rescue group, Port Stephens Koalas.
“We’ve lost 30 koalas in 2016 and 2017 on Port Stephens roads and this sign will really be deployed in a last ditch attempt to save the lives of more koalas,” Ron Land from Port Stephens Koalas says.
The sign will be parked in areas with an active koala population, including Williamtown and Nelson Bay.
