Queues southbound on the M1 between Morisset and Wyong are stretching more than 13 kilometres.
Traffic approaching the Hexham Bridge from Heatherbrae has eased, after earlier being built up for several kilometres.
Police are reminding drivers that double demerit points remain in place until midnight tonight.
