DOWNER GROUP EMPLOYEES STAGE HIGHWAY PICKET

Their three-day strike comes to an end at midnight but Downer Group employees made their presence felt again today, with a picket along the New England Highway at Singleton.

The workers, from Hunter mines and power stations as well as RAAF Base Williamtown and Newcastle’s light rail project, are calling for a three per cent pay rise over the next two years.

They say they’ve endured a wage freeze while company profits have surged.

Downer says talks are continuing.
