CONFIRMATION NO HAZARDOUS GOODS IN LOST SHIPPING CONTAINERS

Authorities have confirmed none of the 83 shipping containers lost at sea off the Hunter’s coast on Friday contain any hazardous materials.

Debris has so far been located at Jimmys Beach, Anna Bay, Fingal Head and Yacaaba Head, after the freight ship ‘YM Efficiancy’ lost part of its load in large swells.

Marine Rescue has also reported seeing four containers near Cabbage Tree Island, on Saturday afternoon.

Members of the public are reminded the contents of the containers are the property of the shipping company, and can’t be salvaged.

The vessel is currently off the coast of Sydney, awaiting clearance to enter Port Botany.
