SEA OF HANDS TO MARK RECONCILIATION WEEK

A sea of hands has been planted at Newcastle’s Christ Church Cathedral, to mark Reconciliation Week.

The installation is designed to be a symbol of solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people.

“The beauty of the hands is that together when we hold hands, we’re showing that we’re in partnership, we’re connected to one another, so this is a very visual way of saying we want to be together.”

Students from Newcastle Grammar worked alongside the Samaritans to create the powerful message.

“Young people are being encouraged to learn and to take pride in culture makes it so important, we’ve got to start with young people and it’s through young people that we’ll actually achieve some of this reconciliation.”

Reconciliation Week continues until Sunday.
