MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING OVERNIGHT POLICE PURSUITS
A 41-year-old man has been arrested, after leading officers on two police chases across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
Officers spotted a red Holden Commodore at Jesmond, at around 1 o’clock this morning, attempting to stop the vehicle after it accelerated past them.
It’s alleged the car failed to stop, with police abandoned their pursuit at Lambton.
The Commodore was spotted a short-time later, travelling along the Newcastle Inner City Bypass where a second pursuit was initiated.
It’s alleged the car reached speeds of 160km/h in a 90km/h zone, taking officers through Mt Hutton, Warners Bay, Valentine, Belmont and Gateshead.
The pursuit was stopped for safety reasons.
Following inquiries police located the car at a unit block in Wickham Road at Lambton, arresting the 41-year-old man, who it’s alleged was the driver during the pursuits.
He was charged with multiple offences including driving while disqualified, and refused bail to face court later today.
