NEW RECORD FOR LAKE MACQUARIE SAILOR IN VOLVO OCEAN RACE

If you get sea sick, spare a thought for these guys.

Lake Macquarie sailor Chris Nicholson and his Team Akzo-Nobel crewmates have set a record for the greatest distance sailed in 24 hours, in the Volvo Ocean Race.

They cruised close to 1,000 kilometres as they head east from Newport USA, to Cardiff in Wales.

“Everything has to align perfectly to bust a record at this level and to break it to the size we have. It will be broken again but it’ll stay for a while I think”

Believe it or not, they saw these as ideal conditions.

“I think it must be like childbirth. You kind of forget the bad bits and keep doing it again”
