BRENDAN JOHNSTON CLAIMS STAGE 2 VICTORY IN PORT TO PORT

Rankin Park’s Cameron Ivory still wears the leader’s jersey in the Port-to-Port Mountain Bike race, but there was no back-to-back stage victory today.

Instead, day two honours went to defending champion Brendan Johnston.

He out-sprinted the field, jumping to third overall in the process – just five seconds behind Ivory.

It’s a far different story in the women’s category – Armidale’s Holly Harris holds a 13-minute lead after producing another dominant stage win.

Today’s 45-kilometre course took riders through bushland in Killingworth, on the western side of Lake Macquarie.

Tomorrow, they’ll take to the Watagans.
