NO WASTE FEE EXEMPTION FOR STOCKTON CLEAN UP
The EPA has refused to waive a waste levy for Newcastle Council and Hunter Water, after thousands of tonnes of rubbish was unearthed at Stockton Beach earlier this year.
Powerful swell uncovered the old tip, but the EPA says the erosion event wasn’t declared a natural disaster, so it’s unable to grant an exemption.
It’s expected the fee will add more than a million dollars to the clean-up cost.
