ICONIC NEWCASTLE RESERVOIR GAINS STATE HERITAGE LISTING

It’s become one of Newcastle’s most exclusive visitor attractions and now an old underground water reservoir on The Hill has gained state heritage listing.

Built in the 1800’s to hold two million litres of water for the town’s supply, the reservoir remained in service until the 1960’s.

Repurposed in 2015 by Hunter Water, the Res, as it’s now known, offers underground tours.

16,000 people are currently listed on a ballot, waiting for their experience.
