CALLS FOR MORE SECURITY AFTER VANDALS DESECRATE ANZAC MEMORIAL
It was the last thing anyone wanted to discover on the eve of ANZAC Day – the memorial gates of ANZAC Park desecrated in a disgraceful attack.
And now one Tamworth councillor is taking steps to ensure vandalism like this doesn’t happen again.
“I believe we need permanent CCTV camera observing those sites to provide another level of protection. It may not obviously protect them from damage but it may deter someone who wants to do something,” Cr Mark Rodda.
It’s not the first time vandals have taken to sacred monuments around town.
The cost of the damage coming back on community groups.
“You can see that these sandstones structures have the names engraved within the sandstone to repair them will come at a great cost to the community.”
Councillor Rodda understands bids will be made to state and federal governments to help fund the repair.
