FREE ENGLISH COURSE FOR ARMIDALE REFUGEES

More than 300 humanitarian refugees are beginning to settle in Armidale.

With many moving from Iraq and Syria – speaking the English language is just one hurdle they face in moving to the city.

But TAFE New South Wales is offering more than 500-hours of free English courses to help.

“The best way to make sure that those people can integrate into the community, feel welcome and then start contributing positively to the community is to actually become proficient in English,” Adam Marshall, Member for Northern Tablelands.

Once the new residents have built their reading, writing and speaking skills, further TAFE course options have been committed.

“Those refugees will then be entitled to study, for free, up to a certificate four level, a course at TAFE to develop their skills so that they can go out and get a job.”
