GLOVES OFF FOR WATTS TITLE DEFENCE

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Shelley Watts has announced she won’t be defending her title on the Gold Coast next year.

Watts says she withdrew after not being able to drop to her fighting weight of 60kg to qualify.

The 30-year-old was scheduled to fight at the Australian Championships earlier this month but announced on Instagram she would not be competing.

In her first television interview she revealed while the dream of competing at a Commonwealth Games on home soil is over, she has her eyes set on stepping into the ring to represent Australia in the 20-20 Tokyo Games.

We’ll have more on this story tonight on NBN News.
