81-YEAR-OLD WOMAN STRUCK BY A CAR ON THE FAR NORTH COAST

An elderly pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a Holden sedan that crossed onto the wrong side of the road and mounted a footpath.

The incident happened just after 9:30am yesterday, on River Street in Maclean on the Far North of NSW.

The pedestrian, an 81-year-old woman, was airlifted to Lismore Hospital with a partially severed foot, and underwent surgery for fractures to her leg and pelvis.

Police believe the 53-year-old female driver of the car may have suffered a medical episode at the time of the accident.

The driver was taken to Maclean Hospital for blood and urine testing and also underwent CT scans.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.
