MAN CHARGED OVER SINGLETON CRASH BACK IN COURT IN DECEMBER

A 29 year old man who is accused of going on a rampage in the Hunter Valley in a stolen truck will back in court in December.

Rodney Johnson was charged with a number of driving and weapons offences after an alleged stolen truck exploded into flames at Singleton yesterday morning.

Police deployed road spikes to stop the semi trailer after it was seen driving erratically along the New England Highway. The truck had been reported stolen from Murrurundi earlier in the day.

It continued to career down George Street for another 2 kilometres, crashing into cars, and side swiping buildings until it hit a power pole and burst into flames.

The 29 year old was arrested at the scene and charged with 10 offences overnight.

He didn’t appear in court and bail was formally denied.

A mental health assessment has been ordered.
