CCTV IMAGE RELEASED OVER BALLINA HANDBAG SNATCHING

Police have released a CCTV image after a bag was snatched from an elderly woman on the Far North coast.

The incident happened at around 4pm last Thursday, as the 83-year-old was walking on Winston Lane in Ballina.

Police say a man grabbed the woman’s handbag from behind, and was last seen running towards Martin Street.

The woman fell to the ground and was taken to Ballina Hospital in a stable condition with a fractured pelvis.

Police wish to speak with a young female who spoke to witnesses shortly after the incident but left before police arrived.

She is described as about 16-17 years of age with shoulder length blonde hair and wearing a red jumper and blue pants.

Detectives also wish to talk with the male and female depicted in a CCTV image, as they may be witnesses to the incident.

The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 170 and 180cm tall and with short blond hair.
