JETS REWARD CHAMPNESS WITH NEW DEAL

The Jets have rewarded exciting young winger Joe Champness with a new three-year deal, following a pre-season where he’s featured heavily in wins over A-League opposition.
“Yeah I’m really happy, the environment here is really conducive to learning and I’m excited to make a contribution as much as I can for the good of the team.”
Coach Ernie Merrick says the 20-year-old has shown what he’s capable of in attack, but he’ll have to bide his time.
“Given that we’ve got a lot of experience in our starting 11, the youngsters will get an opportunity on the bench because we don’t have a lot of depth with experienced players so he’ll be one that’ll be fighting for that spot but he’s got to earn it.”
