FIREARMS ALLEGEDLY DISCOVERED BURIED ON STANTHORPE PROPERTY

A cache of firearms and ammunition have been discovered buried on a property near the Queensland-NSW border.

Police allege they discovered 11 handguns, two AR15 rifles, and in excess of 10,000 rounds of ammunition, buried in barrels, buckets and tubing on a property twenty minutes outside of Stanthorpe in August.

The discovery came as police were conducting follow-up investigations into the 1997 murder of Philip Carlyle.

A 66-year-old Reedy Creek man has been charged with major firearms offences relating to the possession of illegal firearms and failure to secure ammunition.
