35-YEAR-OLD SURFER BITTEN BY SHARK AT ILUKA

A surfer has been bitten by a shark off Iluka, near Yamba, on the north coast of NSW.

The 35-year-old male from Byron Bay was surfing with friends, about 100 metres north of the Iluka breakwall at around 6am this morning, when the incident occured.

It’s believed the shark was a white pointer, between 2-3 metres in length.

Reports suggest the shark bit the man and split the board in half, before coming back and biting the board again.

The man suffered three puncture wounds on right hip.

Friends drove the man to Ballina Hospital, about one hour away.
