PLANS FOR $90M SHOPPING SQUARE EXPANSION

Lismore City Council will consider plans for a $90-million expansion of the Lismore Shopping Square.

The proposal has been put forward by the owner of the shopping complex and will be discussed at next Tuesday’s council meeting.

“The shopping centre would pay for the full expansion, they would pay for the council land like the road and the park, they would have to buy from council. It’s expected to be a $90 to $100-million dollar investment if they were to move forward with it”

It’s estimated the expansion could create hundreds of retail and construction jobs, and encourage shoppers to stay local.

But, views on the proposal are divided.

“A lot of mixed views, people are concerned about the CBD after the recovery, so if it was to go forward, council would definitely have to consider that as a major factor.
