BUSHFIRE CAUSES SEAHAMPTON ROAD CLOSURE

Strong westerly winds have fanned dozens of bushfires from the Central to the Mid North Coast.

Police are treating one fire west of Newcastle as suspicious.

It broke out at Seahampton, around midday, forcing the closure of George Booth Drive.

At Port Stephens, a blaze flared in the Salt Ash, Fenninghams Island area after power lines were brought down in the strong wind.

Fire fighters prepared to defend properties but luckily the fire slowed when it hit swamp land.
