CHARGES LAID AFTER DRIVER ALLEGEDLY FAILS TO STOP AFTER HITTING CYCLIST

A teenager will face court after an alleged fail-to-stop crash near Taree.

Police say the 18-year-old man was driving a Holden Commodore on the Pacific Highway at Coopernook, north of Taree, shortly before 9am yesterday, when he allegedly struck a 72-year-old male cyclist.

Police accuse the driver of the Holden of failing to stop and assist.

The cyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was arrested a short time later and charged with causing bodily harm, and failing to stop and assist after impact cause injury.

He will appear in local court next month.
