CHARGES LAID FOLLOWING ALLEGED ARSON ATTACKS

A man will appear in court, charged over alleged arson attacks on two schools on the Gold Coast.

In the first instance, emergency crews responded to reports of a fire inside a classroom at a school on Oceanic Drive in Mermaid Waters last Wednesday night.

Then on Friday night, crews were required to extinguish a small fire in a classroom at a Fairway Drive school at Clear Island Waters.

No one was injured as a result of the fire, but the schools sustained smoke, water and fire damage.

A 17-year-old man from Clear Island Waters has since been charged with two counts of arson and one count of wilful damage, among other charges relating to the arson attacks.
