CYCLIST CRITICALLY INJURED NEAR BYRON BAY

Police are investigating the circumstances around a crash near the New South Wales-Queensland border that left a cyclist in a critical condition.

Police say a 70-year-old man was riding his push bike east on Bangalow Road, Byron Bay just after midday yesterday, when he came off his bike and crashed heavily onto the road.

He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Any witnesses are being urged to contact police.
