MAN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULT

A man will front court over the alleged sexual assault of a woman on the far north coast last week.

The 31-year-old woman told police she was at Belongil Beach near Byron Bay, about 5pm on Monday the 5th of June, when she was approached by an unknown man.

The man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman before she escaped.

She was later taken to Byron Bay Hospital for treatment.

Subsequent police inquiries led to the arrest a 31-year-old man at a home in Coffs Harbour about 1.30pm yesterday.

He was charged with six counts of aggravated sexual assault (deprive liberty), three counts of committing an act of indecency, and one count of reckless damage.
