22-YEAR-OLD ALLEGEDLY FOUND WITH UNREGISTERED PISTOL

A man stands accused of firearm offences after police allegedly located an unregistered pistol during a vehicle search in Port Stephens.

Police were patrolling Shoal Bay Road in Shoal Bay, when they stopped the driver of a Mazda station wagon for a random breath test around 2:30am this morning.

The driver returned a negative result and was subjected to a search, when officers allegedly located a metal air pistol.

The man, aged 22, was charged with possession of an unregistered pistol.
