ONE DEAD IN BALLINA AIR CRASH

A man has died in a light aircraft crash on the far north coast this morning.

The Cessna Skyhawk took off from Heck Field Flying Club in Jacobs Well near the Gold Coast at 8am, on route to Ballina Airport.

Just before 9am, local residents in Brooklet near Ballina heard a loud noise, and found the aircraft had crashed into bushland.

There was heavy fog and low cloud in the area at the time.

A 71-year-old-man – the sole occupant of the aircraft – died in the crash.
