Corrective Services have seized drugs, weapons and alcohol from visitors attempting to smuggle contraband into Cessnock Correctional Centre.
Elite Special Operations officers, aided by K-9 unit dogs, targeted visitors and their vehicles over the weekend.
Amongst other items, syringes, a butterfly knife, a throwing knife, two ‘ice’ smoking pipes, a quantity of ‘ice’, a pick handle, and a cattle prod were seized.
The items were found hidden in a woman’s pants, concealed in a glove box and handbag, and hidden behind a skip bin.
Visitors caught bringing banned items to correctional centres face penalties of up to two years imprisonment, in addition to drug-related criminal charges.
