NOVACASTRIAN SUMMITS WORLD’S TALLEST MOUNTAIN

A Newcastle property manager has scaled the world’s tallest mountain as part of an attempt to climb the ‘seven summits’ – the highest peaks on each of the seven continents.
Leah Jay reached the peak of Mount Everest yesterday at 4:40am local time (8:55am AEST time), after more than eight hours of climbing overnight.
Mount Everest is the world’s tallest mountain at 8,848 metres, and only Denali in Alaska now stands between her and completion of the ‘seven summits’.
The climb was also an achievement in memory of Leah’s late son, Elliot. Elliot passed away in 2008, at the age of just nineteen, after a twelve-month battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Leah will be participating in the Newcastle Big Freeze event on 17th June at Newcastle Number 1 Sports Ground, to raise funds and awareness to fight MND.
