MAN ATTACKED OUTSIDE CHARLESTOWN HOME

A man has been hospitalised in a serious condition after he was attacked by two assailants in a Newcastle suburb.

The 28-year-old man was outside his home on Hillsborough Road in Charlestown, when he was attacked by the two men just before 5am.

Police say the attackers were dressed in dark clothing and armed with an edged weapon when the incident took place, before fleeing the scene.

Paramedics treated the man for lacerations to his left arm and chest.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition, but his injuries are not considered life threatening.
