A driver has allegedly led police on a pursuit while under the influence of alcohol and with four children in the vehicle on the mid north coast.
Around 2:20pm yesterday, police say they detected a Holden Commodore travelling at 119km on the Pacific Highway at Coopernook.
Police pursued the vehicle for 28 kilometres before terminating the chase at Harrington due to safety concerns.
Subsequent inquiries led police to stop a 40-year-old man riding a bicycle on Crowdy Bay Road in Crowdy Bay shortly after 3pm who allegedly admitted to driving the Commodore and returned a positive breath test.
He was later charged with police pursuit (Skye’s Law), exceed speed, and mid-range PCA. He will appear in Taree local court later next month.
Police allege there were four children aged between two and eight in the vehicle during the pursuit, along with the man’s wife.
