DOG SQUAD HELPS LOCATE MAN WANTED ON OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

A man on outstanding warrants has led police on a vehicle pursuit before being found in a shed on a rural property in Port Stephens.

Around 6:30pm last night, police were patrolling Nelson Bay Road at Williamtown when they sighted a man wanted on warrants.

Police pursued the vehicle, a Ford Falcon, along Cabbage Tree Road, the Pacific Highway, and New England Highway, before terminating the chase on John Renshaw Drive in Beresfield.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Queens Wharf Road in Morpeth.

With assistance from the Dog Unit, police conducted a search of the nearby area and a 27-year-old man was arrested after being located nearby in a rural farm shed.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment to a laceration on his arm, where he remains under police guard.

Charges are expected to be laid at a later date.
