NEWCASTLE-HUNTER RUGBY UNION ROUND 2 WRAP

The Wanderers have claimed a huge win in round two of the local rugby, finishing 61 point winners.

The greens edged out Waratahs, Nelson Bay downed Beaches, Lake Macquarie snuck past the Students, while the Hawks and Maitland couldn’t be split.

Surprisingly it was Maitland who lead at half-time, up 9-0 thanks to three penalties, before skipping out to a 14-0 lead early in the second.

But that’s when the Hawks struck back, momentum well and truly swinging in their favour.

The succesful kick from Paddy Kilmurray levelling it up at 14-14.
