VAN DRIVER SOUGHT TO ASSIST INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED CARJACKING

The driver of a van that was the target of an alleged attempted carjacking near Grafton is urged to contact police as investigations into the incident continue.

Around 4:30pm yesterday, police attempted to stop a black Toyota Rav 4 on the Pacific Highway in Clarenza.

Police allege the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated through James Creek and Chatsworth Island.

The pursuit came to an end when a set of road spikes were deployed on the Pacific Highway at Mororo, but the driver and two passengers fled on foot.

All three approached a white van, where one of them allegedly produced a replica firearm and attempted to carjack the vehicle before police intervened and arrested the trio – a 34-year-old man, a 23-year-old woman and a 15-year-old teenage boy.

Police are now appealing for the driver of the van to come forward and contact them.

The driver is believed to be male, and the van is only described as being white with NSW yellow number plates.
