CHARGES FOLLOW ALLEGED DOMESTIC ATTACK ON THE M1

A man has been charged after allegedly assaulting a woman following a car crash on the M1 motorway on the Central Coast yesterday.

Police report that just before midday, a southbound Nissan X-trail veered across lanes near the Kariong exit before crashing into a stationary truck.

It’s alleged the male driver of the Nissan, aged 45, began assaulting the passenger, a 36-year-old woman, before a passing truck driver stopped to intervene.

The man was held by witnesses until police arrived.

The incident is believed to be domestic violence related, and caused delays stretching back seven kilometres.

The woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver has now been charged with choking and negligent driving.
