BOWMANS CREEK BLAZE BEING CONTROLLED

Fire fighters hope to gain the upper hand on a blaze in the Hunter Valley tonight.

The fire has ripped through almost 300-hectares of land at Bowmans Creek, east of Muswellbrook, since it started early yesterday afternoon from a lightning strike.

Ground crews are being supported by water-bombing aircraft, including a Blackhawk helicopter.

The RFS is confident the blaze will be under control later this evening thanks to improving weather conditions and the efforts of fire fighters.
