11 ARRESTED AFTER CHARLESTOWN PARTY GETS OUT OF CONTROL

11 people have been arrested, while another two have been admitted to hospital suffering suspected drug overdoses, following an out of control party near Newcastle.

At around 9 o’clock last night, police were called to Ida Street, Charlestown following reports of a large party.

Police estimate a crowd of 300 people, mostly juveniles, were at the address, and pelted police with bottles and cans when they first arrived.

At one point, a total of 26 cars police cars attended the scene and police closed The Pacific Highway in one direction.

Several arrests were made as the situation was brought under control.

A 17-year-old teenage boy was charged with affray, malicious damage to police vehicle and offensive behaviour.

A 27-year-old Marks Point man was charged with assault police, resisting police, and possessing prohibited drugs.
