Mining giant Santos today submitted its Environmental Impact Statement for the Narrabri Gas Project to the New South Wales Government.
The statement claims the project can safely proceed with a minimal and manageable risk to the environment.
If the proposal goes ahead, the project could supply up to half of the state’s gas needs.
Narrabri Shire Council has supported the proposal, while other community groups remain opposed to CSG exploration in the Piliga Forest.
The statement will be on public exhibition in the next two weeks.
