Newcastle Police have deemed Australia Day celebrations a huge success, with only three arrests for minor offences.
A stand-out of police operations was a blockade of buses along Honeysuckle Drive.
Acting Inspector David Mitchell says they’re a new tactic following recent incidents in Melbourne and Nice.
“The members of the community certainly don’t have anything to fear in relation to the buses. They should be comforted in the fact that it’s an extra layer of protection for them,” he said.
